POUR TROIS SOUS
– No. 2
The main part of the work is hand-crocheted from polyester yarn. As an everyday cleaning material, it is commonly used in bathrooms and kitchens. Polyester once represented a modern, fashionable and colourful way of life. Today, it has become cheap and even disposable.
Housework is often overlooked and undervalued. Much of it is done simply to save a few pennies. There is a large gap between the amount of work involved and the value assigned to it.
For this piece, I chose the form of a classic ready-to-wear jacket and used real euro coins as buttons. I also designed its label: POUR TROIS SOUS / 100% POLYESTER. Pour trois sous roughly means “for a few pennies.”
